Hotel Tips

The Bear Inn is an intelligent and charming alternative stay either in central Bristol or directly at the airport. You will get to benefit from a historic English pub with easy access to the airport, probably at a lower cost. Plan your Bristol sightseeing during the day, maybe by using the very convenient Airport Flyer bus or driving to a park-and-ride site, and return in the evening to the peace of the village and the cozy pub.

To get a real feel for this place, spend some time in the traditional bar downstairs. This is where the whole village comes to life and keeps on living long after you've gone to bed upstairs. In winter sit beside the fire with a pint of local real ale or enjoy their large beer garden on your sunny afternoon here! Friendly locals and staff will be only too pleased not just to tell you about some 'hidden gems' round here but also give you an insight into English pub culture over classic pub grub - fish & chips or Sunday roast.

For something uniquely local, visit nearby Chew Valley Lake. Just a short drive from the inn, this large reservoir makes a beautiful setting for birdwatchers (it's an SSSI), quiet walkers, and appreciators of the Somerset countryside in general. There are some very nice pubs around the lake where lunch can be taken. All this lies barely half an hour's drive from the center of Bristol-it couldn't provide a greater contrast to city bustle.

Given the potential for noise from the pub, especially on weekends or if there is live music, it's useful to request a room away from the main bar area if you are a light sleeper. The staff are generally very accommodating. Also, be aware that as a very old building, amenities are traditional; there might not be air conditioning, and access involves stairs. By embracing the historic, rustic charm and planning accordingly, you can have a wonderfully authentic and memorable stay.
